How to Be a Rainmaker

Rain- seems like that’s what we got for most summer! When did New York and Seattle trade places and I had no idea?

Being that rain was the of discussion for the lion’s share of us in this part of the States at the beginning of the summer, it does bring to mind a lesson on Branding I picked up from one Dr. Ben Mack which happened last year.

Over the next bunch of articles or so I will endeavor to reveal some of the crucial points of this lecture which was comprised of three key sections: 1) How to make lightning Strike, 2) How to keep the lightning striking and 3) How to Bottle your Lightning.

For those of you not aware of Dr. Ben Mack, he is one of the principal authorities on Branding today in the USA. He has held positions at over 14 diverse Ad agencies over his memorable professional undertakings and held position of Vice President for Brand strategy for a very large corporation.

Basically what that meant was he was a chief strategist in charge of a ” Billion dollar budget (yes, I said ” BILLION or 500 Million dollar budget!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he performed magic for the businesses he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest beneficiary of the Award of Merit given by the Academy of Magical Arts.

Do you know what a Rainmaker is? Do you want to become one? A rainmaker aside from the apparent implication of a indian shaman who using magic makes it rain, is an individual with the extraordinary talent to be a magnet for clients, exploit (in a good way) political connections, and bottom line, make the business a great deal of money. However, when it rains the lightning isnt too far away! We will get more into that in a bit.

The essential obligation as a marketer is to “up sell” folks understanding of reality. In Benjamin Macks book entitled “Think Two Products Ahead” he elaborates on the whole concept of how practical branding only occurs when businesses (large or small) think two products ahead instead of the current time frame and for these companies to put together thriving affiliations with their client or customers through their Brand. The part in the book where Ben Mack discusses the process of developing your Legend Platform is absolutely priceless!

A Brand (your brand, a Brand called YOU) is built through the use of Legends or communication that is time and time again. These stories can and should be allowed to challenge each other and most certainly grow with age. So, if you’re going to pick a story that you create for your business to help grow your business (after all you are reading articles like this to help you become more profitable in your business arent you?) why not pick the type that grows stronger with age and you will indeed become “Legendary”.

Stay tuned for the next part in the series of articles covering Dr. Bens How to Become a Rainmaker.
